In an age where the action blockbuster is often po-faced, it's a refreshing change to see something that doesn't take itself too seriously. With a dark, historical setting, some might think the more comedic approach to proceedings might be too jarring and thematically mishaped.
Yes, tonally it is uneven, yes, it is narratively inert and yes, it is melodramatic in places, but, this doesn't really matter. Jackie Chan's latest is certainly not going to push the boundaries of cinematic artistry, however, it is certainly fun and entertaining.
