Review of Pu-239 (2006) by Vadim S — 21 May 2008
Born Ultimatum was called the intelligent thriller then swept under the rug for Oscar season. PU-239 gets an HBO release and when its picked up for DVD distribution it gets rented three times over a the past month at my video store.
I took it home to watch so I could maybe put it up for employee recommendation tomorrow - maybe help my boss move the product a little. But holy shit. Scott Z. Burns is probably the most under appreciated filmmaker in Hollywood today.
Not to say that he's not getting the work he deserves I mean he's writing and directing his own movies for gods sake, but I'm saying his message is probably the most profound and unpretentious we've got around today, it's like he's the modern day Paul Schrader.
For the sake of art go watch this movie.
