Review of Promised Land (2012) by Jack K — 30 Jan 2013
I'd like to talk about Promised Land not as an anti-fracking movie, but as the complex story of an outsider facing off against a small town. Gus Van Sant's film isn't an issue movie - it's a story of everyone believing they're doing the right thing, and I find nothing more fascinating than watching a headstrong protagonist fight for what he thinks is right as he sinks into morally murky water.
Promised Land is one of the year's best and least-appreciated films, with another astonishing performance from Matt Damon.
