Review of Prince of the City (1981) by Max M — 06 Jun 2008
Another terrific and fascinating Sidney Lumet film (and companion piece to his earlier and equally brilliant Serpico) about police corruption in New York City and the blurred lines between good and bad, right and wrong, and legal and illegal.
It's nearly three hour running time drags here and there, but Treat Williams' extraordinary performance and Lumet's ever-present ability to give his audience a warts-and-all tour of areas of New York they never get to see (most of they would never WANT to see) ultimately make this picture compulsively watchable.
