Review of Please Vote for Me (2007) by Xanthe S — 20 Jan 2009
When kids are this excited about politics (and it's not about Barack Obama), take note. One of the best documentaries I've seen in a while, PLESE VOTE FOR ME, is an adorable story about three Chinese kids who are chosen to run for Hall Monitor for their elementary school class.
The kids' ensuing behavior and reactions to their campaign become essentially a microcosm of politics in Democracy. Everything about campaigns - from speech-making, organizing and debate skills to bribery, grandstanding, and ruthlessness - are all covered.
It's also kind of nice to see how elementary schools look and work in the new China. Go rent the DVD, it's less than an hour long but packed with action!
