Review of Phenomena (1985) by Carl B — 17 Apr 2009
Really enjoyable Italian Horror film from maestro Dario Argento. Jennifer Connelly stars as a young girl who is sent to a Swiss boarding school where her unique gift of communicating with insects enables her to solve a grusome murder case and track the killer.
Stylish and supremely daft [one of the murder suspect red herrings is a monkey!], this rollercoaster ride into the absurd develops in so random a fashion it takes on a dreamlike quality, with a gripping atmosphere which is hard to shake off.
Phenomena also boasts an incessant heavy-metal soundtrack which is so unabashedly 1980s it may be hard for some viewers to take.
