Review of Persepolis (2007) by James B — 28 Dec 2009
Fine animated film based of off a fine autobiographical comic book. Marjane is an interesting character who has a very interesting tale to tell about Iran, its people and how they cope with the situation that's been forced upon them by a repressive government.
While the film feels a bit too episodic in places and makes Marjane seem a bit more brash than she does in the comic, I feel that its an excellent adaptation, that in places really compliments the comic (a read of the comic also does the opposite too).
A very smart animated film, something that's hard to come by. I wish more alt comic film adaptations worked in animation instead of live action.
