Review of Paper Heart (2009) by Thais S — 04 Dec 2009
I'm a softy, I'll admit it. I like cute movies. I especially like cute romantic comedies about losers that find love. I have a huge crutch for those films such as Garden State and The Science of Sleep. That may have something to do why I like this movie.
The main thing I would say it suffers from is very poor pacing. The film feels very slow and doesn't do a great job of holding attention or not being incredibly dry.
Charlyne Yi was great in this film, she plays the timid indie nerd very well. As per usual, Michael Cera delivers his usual spot on shy dork performance, which I still enjoy. The cameo's were great too. There were a few interviews with a some great comedians that I loved, although I wish they were longer.
I guess I like this film more than is perhaps justifiable since I can identify with the loser nerd hopeless romantic motif. All around though it's worth a rent.
Who should see this?
1) Anyone who identifies as a nerd.
2) Anyone who identifies as a hopeless romantic.
3) Fans of romantic comedies.
4) Fans of cute darkly funny loser love stories like Garden State and The Science of Sleep.
