Review of Pale Flower (1964) by Doctor Dan B — 21 Jul 2009
I just saw this 1964 Japanese gem on Netflix Instant....and let me just say it has aged well. A stylish black and white gangster flick, or rather Yakuza, follows tough guy Muraki in his first taste of freedom from the Big House to his eventual return. He meets up with a sulty gambling gamine name Saeko and his fate is set. Smart, cool and stylish this film is a fun ride. Masahiro Shinoda directs.
(I actually rated it 5 stars, but for some reason Flixster won't print it...).
