Review of Open Grave (2013) by Michael H — 24 Dec 2013
I really liked this film. I've adored Sharlto since District 9 so I rented as soon as it was available. There are some twists and it had a nice ending that tied everything up like the previous review said.
Actually liked this more than World War Z. It didn't rely on effects but it was more gritty and down to earth horror which focused on location (the pit, shacks hidden in the woods, secret labs in the basement) which helped the story because being lost in the woods is bad enough, but to have no memory and no one knows if they trust each other.
Not to mention the 'creatures/people' living in the woods! It give it a realistic approach to terror. I'm actually sick of gory movies bring back more films with a story and suspense like in the days of John Carpenter's Halloween and Jaws.
