Review of Oleanna (1994) by Matthew C — 24 Jul 2007
Ooh ooh ooh I was frustrated with this movie. I really liked William H. Macy and I absolutely love the script, but I despised the performance of Debra Eisenstadt. The whole point of the peice, if you can give Mamet "points," is that the end of the performance should split the audience down the middle. Half should be fervently arguing on the side of the professor, and the other half on the side of the poor ingénue. But her performance was so vindictively planned it was impossible to see from her side, at least from my perspective. The movie just didn't do justice to Mamet's masterpeice.
Still worth seeing just to get the feel of it, though.
