Review of Offside (2006) by Jorge M — 30 Mar 2008
As my sister Vanessa said, Offside is a perfect movie! Very sweet and enjoyable. It provides a very authentic look into the Iranian culture and the absurdities, challenges that females must endure but at the same time defy in the Islamic Republic at this time of transition in their cultural revolution.
Jafar Panahi does an outstanding job in portraying the desire and thirst for change and modernization that the Iranian women and girls desire. I have never seen such a positive, nationalistic and constructive criticism in film before.
A must for those who want to understand the challenges of modern Iranian society nowadays. A tour de force!
