Review of Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) by Adam R — 14 Aug 2007
Brilliant! An improvement over the original in terms of originality, pacing, and even style.
This is easily Herzog's most fully-realized film, with magnetic performances and a remarkable take on an age-old legend.
No director can make nature seem as beautiful, menacing, and ethereal all at the same time as Herzog can. His imagery conjures up other, earlier films of social decay and natural horrors; the result is like themes explored by Murnau, Bergman, and Bunuel all rolled into one remarkable package.
