Review of North by Northwest (1959) by Roger R — 25 Nov 2010
How does a girl like you get to be a girl like you? - Suave - now there is a word you don't hear very often - the subtext of love perceived betrayal and falsity and the relief that love was real is universal and timeless - watch it over and over.
Of the thousands of moments in this film which define what art is in the cinema amongst the most delicious is when Roger Thornhill bribes his own mother to break into a hotel room with him. The mutual infatuation Cary Grant has with the character who plays his mother (Jessie Royce Landis?) is palpable.
The same on screen chemistry exists between them in "To Catch a thief".
