It's a very wonderful "love" story between two people, and you also get to see that there were personal problems with Marilyn when she wasn't making the movies. I think that they really did love each other, but I think that they both knew that who she was, was way bigger than anything that they could handle.

I think that she just wanted someone outside of her group to hear what she had to say more than anything.
