Review of Mr. Jealousy (1998) by Roger K — 11 Feb 2008
First of all, let me say that making a movie about New Yorkers with complicated relationship problems does not make you Woody Allen. I got the impression that Baumbach was trying to go for that feel. There was too much narration that reveals more about the characters than you will really need to know, particually about Sciorra's character.
I don't need to know about her supersticious beliefs. It's not important. The characters are unlikable. I don't feel sorry for anyone for anything that happens to them. And most importantly for a comedy, it's NOT FUNNY.
I didn't laugh once. Some points for at least an interesting storyline. Perhaps as a book, it would have been much more interesting.
