Review of Matthew Blackheart: Monster Smasher (2002) by Brian S — 05 Sep 2011
Harmless, good-natured cheezer about a WWII Captain America-like super soldier tasked with battling monsters created by an arch-villain. He returns to NYC after 55 years in suspended animation just in time to find the monsters on the verge of taking over the city.
.. by becoming Republicans and getting their candidate elected mayor! The lead role was clearly written with Bruce Campbell in mind. The whole thing is as silly as it is violent, and it's all couched in a comic book context.
Entertaining fluff with a decent sense of humor. If you liked the "Evil Dead" series, particularly "Army of Darkness," you might like this low budget comedy/monster action flick, too.
