Review of Mark of the Devil (1970) by Wayne Z — 11 Jan 2009
Still not available uncut in the UK. I saw the uncut version and immediately ran out of my house on a mission to find girls that I thought were witches so I could take them home and inflict medieval tortures upon them.
(not really). It really is pathetic that the BBFC can't leave films like this alone. Anyhow, Herbert Lom is great as the impotent Witchfinder General. The tortures they used to inflict in the name of church and God are unbelieveable, but mostly true.
Proof that religions have always been evil and corrupt. Mostly based on actual events, but also with some bullshit thrown in. (Witchfinders never used Chinese water torture, for example!).
