Review of Man About Dog (2004) by John D — 04 Jun 2008
They've been doing it across the sea in Blighty for at least 5 years, so Paddy Breathnach takes the "lovable rogues" formula to an Irish setting and adds a stroppy whippet to where presumably one V.
Jones might manouvre otherwise. Alan Leech does bring some intellegence to the overly-slapstick plot, making the most of his "Love Is The Drug" kudos, as for the rest, well, Pat Shortt in his defence shows that he has more up his sleeve than the abomination known as "Kilinaskully", but far too much time is spent trying to schmooze up to Guy Ritchie addicts, spoiling the risque humour and goosebumpy gangster directional ethics.
May have worked better as an Irish TVM, considering that RTE are by now in dire need of something to match the few and far between success stories of Leech's aforementioned Drogheda based exploits.
Gets 2 stars for Leech and a shockingly impressive Shortt.
