Review of M (1931) by Chris W — 16 Jun 2008
What an amazing film. This is said to be the film that introduced us to the serial killer genre and the police procedural. Fincher was obviously influenced (se7en, zodiac). But back to M, the story centers around a town terrorized by a child killer.
It shows how it effects everyone in the town: citizens, police, and gangsters. The killer isn't even on screen that much, though his acts effect everyone always, but when he is on screen he's very creepy.
This was Peter Lorre's first major role and he did amazingly as a killer who in many ways is a child too. This was Fritz Lang's first sound film and up there as his best film with Metropolis. I recommend all who can to see this.
