Review of Life Itself (2014) by Pratiksha K — 26 Jan 2015
It took me very long to get to watching Life Itself. I had to steel myself into watching a movie that delved into the painful last years of the man who inspired me to write about the movies. And yes, it was a very difficult movie to watch! Yet, the man himself, was such a beacon of positivity through his discomfiture and agonizing pain.
What a beautiful tribute to the man who wrote the most eloquent movie reviews! Even, if I do not agree with some of them, it is hard to argue with the invoked emotions that he describes while watching particular scenes.
Life Itself captures the unconventional love-hate relationship he shared with Gene Siskel, made all the more interesting by the candid insights of Siskel's wife, Marlene. Be it his relationship with Chaz or his undying enthusiasm for the silver screen, it's all captured poignantly in this documentary.
Guaranteed welling up.
