Over the years it has become commonplace for Dustin Hoffman to wow audiences with his raw and enigmatic performances, but never before has he given such a refreshingly enthusiastic and unbridled one. Hoffman portrays Lenny Bruce, the infamous comedian who challenged censorship and obscenity laws with his over the top comedy act in the 1960's.

Hoffman perfectly captures Bruce's transition from fresh-faced immaturity to egotistical, weathered bitterness. Valerie Perrine also lends Oscar worthy work as Bruce's troubled wife, Honey. Additionally, director Bob Fosse use of clever editing techniques and intimate camera angles help to enhance the audiences empathy for Hoffman's emotionally ravaged Bruce.
