Review of Late Phases (2014) by Conor K — 07 Nov 2015
This is almost a classic of a werewolf movie. The story is compelling, character driven, and has depth and mystery. The acting is very good, especially the star turn by Nick Damici. The transformation scene falls short of those in American Werewolf in London or the remake of The Wolfman but it is pretty good.
The big drawback is the werewolves. The werewolf effects are effective enough when you get only glimpses of them early in the film. But when you get a good look at them toward the climax of the film, they are very disappointing.
They unfortunately reminded me of the little boy in Where the Wild Things Are. While that was a serious deficiency the film's many pluses outweighed it. If you like horror movies AND you like a good human dramatic story, you should enjoy this film as much as I did.
