Shults is clearly a talented young director - and not a bad actor - but this whole tragic souffle would have collapsed if it wasn't for Fairchild's stunning performance. Four stars because I can't dispute its quality, but its such an uncomfortable, disturbing film that I can't really recommend it, either.
