Review of Knight of Cups (2015) by Todd B — 05 Mar 2016
Director Terrence Mallick turns his attention from Texas to Los Angeles in this film where the beauty of the film's cinematography of LA juxtaposes with the hollowness of the story and the shallowness and pain that seems to lurk beneath the city's fortune and beautiful people (Malick rightly puts Las Vegas in the same tragic category).
Christian Bale plays a man lost in the allure of fame and beautiful women in the city, but the voice of God is found outside the city in the desert, calling him home to himself and the chance to begin again.
For Mallick, it's easy to find oneself lost in LA, and it's sure to be saved there.
