Abstract to a fault, Knight of Cups is another daring artistic venture from Malick, even if it suffers from the same lack of focus as the central character. Though Malick holds up American materialism and sensualism up for examination and scorn, he never effectively contrasts it with true beauty, a surprise from the brilliant but eccentric auteur.
