Review of Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten (2007) by Stephen M — 12 Dec 2008
I was excited to see the 'future is unwritten' grafitti on the parking structure next to my building -- someone else was anticipating this film's arrival from europe as much as I was! I love joe, so it's easy to please me with a posthumous film about him, especially when he himself is narrating half of it.
lots of new footage here, of him as a boy, as a hippie, and some rough footage of the 101'ers. great stories from people who knew him his whole life, though I could do without a few of the big-name stars who don't add much to the story.
I wonder why paul simonon is not present? I missed him. but it was neat to see joe's widow, first wife, and daughter in the film. Temple uses some cool cartoons and stock footage to supplement just as he did with the sex pistols film.
but the greatest treasure to me are the audio clips from joe's radio show, just joe playing the music he enjoys.
