Review of Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) by Wj M — 28 Jun 2012
First, if you are evangelical or hate musicals, you'll hate this movie. But if you have even just a passing interest in Jesus or groovy rock songs, you'll love this.
Fine, it's a bit 70's (not is a disco way but more in a dirty hippie way), but the performances are solid and the music is more rock-n-roll than your typical musical. The plot is somewhat controversial--is Judas, the one who betrayed Jesus, to be revered? The film says Judas' betrayal was necessary so Christ would be crucified; without crucifixion, Christ doesn't suffer and die to redeem us.
To be honest, this movie had a huge impact on my faith. It portrays Jesus, Judas, and the rest as real people, not distant figures with no real lives. I highly recommend it to anyone, believers, atheists, and everyone in between.
