Review of Jersey Girl (2004) by Marina C — 22 Mar 2009
This film really surprised me. I am a huge fan of Kevin Smith, which is the only reason I saw it. I loved his View Askewniverse movies, but I just wasn't too into Zach and Miri Make a Porno, so I wasn't sure that I'd like this.
In the end, it became my favorite Kevin Smith film of all time. It's quirky and funny and charming, overall just a really fun movie to watch. I think it definitely got a lot of flack when it was released because of the Affleck-Lopez thing, but it really didn't effect the movie itself at all.
In all honesty, Jersey Girl was just a great film, highly underrated in every aspect. It's definitely worth a watch. Also, I'm a huge Sweeney Todd fan so the whole elementary school production of "God, That's Good!" had me cracking up, (especially when the Catholic teacher thought it was a hymn).
