Review of Ip Man 3 (2015) by Delphinus C — 23 Mar 2016
It's hard to give a score to this one. I liked this movie, a lot, but still I think the predecessors are better. But again, like the others the fights are great - if not better. This one lacked the racists questions of the others but still gives a proper more familiar drama approach, insteed.
I am of the opinion that the first Ip Man was enough, we didnt need a sequel. First things first, Zhang Jin as Cheung Tin-chi steals the show. Fantastic wushu athlete. I allready seen him in The Grandmaster (the 2013's Ip Man movie rival) wich caught my eye back then.
Donnie Yen, reprising the title role, is always great to. The action choreography scenes are exhilarating indeed, with Mike Tyson and Zhang Jin giving great performances. althought Tyson (with only 5 mns of the entire movie) feels like a hole filler without giving us a proper villian.
Ip Man 3 has the weakest plot of the three movies (sometimes dumb indeed), but gives fans what they want: great action scenes and an effective finale...
