Review of Into Great Silence (2005) by R.a. L — 27 Mar 2010
This movie -- in its simplicity and immersion into the daily life of the Carthusian monks -- was like going on a retreat. I watched it in twenty minute segments... struck by the sense of beauty in a solitude that is lived in the presence of God.
The fact that this film was largely without words allowed the audience to experience the life of this community in a way that no commentary would have revealed.
