Review of In My Skin (2002) by Daniel P — 05 Jul 2007
Marina De Van directs and stars as a Esther, a young woman with, seemingly, everything going for a her (except maybe for an over-sized pair of gallic nostrils). It all changes when she accidentally cuts herself. Something happens inside and from that point onwards she indulges in increasingly extreme bouts of self mutilation.
The images are graphic but what is making Esther do this to herself is not so obvious. I sympathised with her boyfriend who just could not understand. Maybe it's self obsession, maybe it's because she can't feel anything else. I don't know.
It is sickening - a real horror that is excruciating in places, especially hotel rooms.
