Review of In Darkness (2011) by Michael H — 23 Mar 2012
A Polish film about hiding escaping Jewish families from the Nazis in the local sewer system may not sound like a compelling way to spend 2.5 hours, but this is a compelling piece of film-making. It bravely shows the flaws and cruelty of all its protagonists, none of whom are the soldiers.
Messy human activities are in full flow, with only minor moments of respite. The end result feels like an honest, complicated and very human triumph.
