Review of I'll Be Seeing You (1944) by Heather M — 16 May 2009
This is one of the most impressive romances of the 1940s. It was one of the first movies to deal with the negative psychological effects that the war had on soldiers, and Joseph Cotten's performance is really good at conveying that.
It's really an exceptional performance, probably his second best (after Shadow of a Doubt). The love story between Cotten and Ginger Rogers is beautiful and genuine, and a lot more complicated than one you'd expect to come from a movie made during enforcement of the production code.
And Rogers' performance is fantastic, playing a woman filled with hope and regret. This is definitely a must-see. I think it's the kind of love story that will be appealing to people who don't normally enjoy classic film.
