Hoop Dreams is a movie I plan to add to my collection of DVDs. It chronicles the lives of two young inner city teenagers roughly in the 8th Grade, who both have been identified by a scout as potential basketball star hopefulls by a man in the Chicago area.

The movie looks at the parallel life of these boys from their high school development through their years in college and after college. It shows how difficult it is to become a great basketball star even when you are the very best.

I sometimes find it hard to imagine that these kids are the same in college. Watching their growth and developmental maturity was fascinating. I am amazed at how a director could stay focused on chronicling a boys life for as long as he had. You almost get a feeling that the boys do not even realize that they are being chronicled. That's what makes this a superior documentary and the best documentary I have ever seen.
