Review of Holy Rollers (2010) by Mikey H — 01 Feb 2011
I'm on a little Jesse Eisenberg fix as I await The Social Network to be available on Netflix. I caught him on SNL, and watched Zombieland and now another indie movie he did called Holy Rollers. Also starring Justin Bartha from The Hangover and Natl.
Treasure, Holy Rollers is a movie inspired from the true concept of Hasidic Jews being used as mules by Israeli cartel to bring ecstasy over from Amsterdam due to their innocence. It kind of was a mix between Scarface, A Bronx Tale, and Fiddler On The Roof.
The movie had it's moments, and there was some great acting by Eisenberg and Bartha (who actually shined as a hip Hasid!) It started off great, but poor editing especially at the middle and end of the movie dampered the movie.
Could have used an extra thirty minutes! Ari Graynor might be the cutest Jewish actress on the planet, where was the nudity? A cool little indie movie, but could have been better had it been a full budget studio film.
Rating: B.
