Review of Hell House (2001) by Alex B — 02 Jun 2008
First of all, I really love the look of this picture. The feel of a documentary shot on film is so dignified and something very much lost in more recent documentaries. Generally, though, this let me feeling pretty unfulfilled.
It's definitely very interesting and does portray its subjects with a great amount of respect. Ratliff has a very good style here that reminds me of Errol Morris to a degree. In the end, though, I think it could have offered a bit more in the way of reactions from patrons.
