Review of Heat (1995) by Julian K — 01 Jul 2012
Possibly Mann's best film and easily one the best heist/cops and robbers films ever made. The big draw is obviously to see Pacino and De Niro flex their cinematic muscles together on screen. For me, if this were a boxing match De Niro wins by a first round pummelling knockout.
His professional criminal Neil is just brilliant, whether he's plotting audacious robberies or telling double-crossing businessmen that's there's a dead man on the end of the line. Such a shame that De Niro's career pretty much plummeted after this.
Pacino is good but slips a bit too much into his Hoo-Har!! stereotype at times. It's an exceptional film though, so much to be said about it. I've watched it at least 20 times and plan at least 20 more.
