Review of Grizzly Man (2005) by Alex C — 12 Jan 2009
The best documentary I've seen in a long time. It's at least the best documentary I've seen while it was released in a movie theater. Nonetheless however, this is a truly remarkable cinematic experience as we go inside the mind of Timothy Treadwell, a man who's obsession with the dangerous Grizzly bear eventually cost he and his girlfriend's life.
The film is just so captivating for numerous reasons. The first is the shear beauty of the movie, as we get caught up in the majestic look of the Alaskan landscape. The second is the captivating personality of Timothy Treadwell, as he filmed almost everything he did during the summers he spent in Grizzly country.
And finally, the film is just a thoroughly told journey by director Werner Herzog. Films like this are rare as they are great.
