Review of Gloomy Sunday (1999) by William K — 30 Oct 2009
This is beautiful.
I wish the dates had been written on screen when the film began, which was in the late 1930s. The three main actors in the restaurant in Budapest (Laszlo, Ilona & Andras) are attractive and engaging. Many times I thought the film was becoming slow and mundane, but every scene helps realize the character of the individuals portrayed. The fourth main actor (Hans) returns later in the film (twice) and much of what happens results from his decisions and actions. ~ Do watch this to the end. It is a gratifying pay-off. ~ Recommend.
