Review of Girlfriend's Day (2017) by Keaton D — 15 Feb 2017
A bizarre mix of quirky rom-com, dark comedy and film noir, along with a plot that ultimately turns into a shameless Chinatown rip-off, Girlfriend's Day can't be faulted for ambition. But an unfocused script and a running time that just makes it over the hour mark betray a film that is several re-writes away from anything approaching its lofty aspirations, cancelling out some decent directorial choices and an affable leading performance.
Conclusion: Its aspiration to far better films is admirable, but half-baked and recycled ideas and jarring tonal shifts leaves Girlfriend's Day far more frustrating than rewarding.
