Review of Funny Games (1997) by Rowan W — 30 Sep 2008
This film is a paradox. Actually it's a paradox of a paradox. it's so effective at discomforting the viewer and pointing out our voyeuristic complicity in the violence of the film that I felt I shouldn't keep watching, as the director intended, except that the technique itself was fascinating and so you end up feeling vindicated, which defeats it's own point.
Too clever by half, but amazing nonetheless.
