Review of Fresh (1994) by Joey C — 10 Aug 2007
FRESH is the *other* great American film of 1994. The story goes that co-producer Laurence Bender forced Samuel Jackson to cameo in this film if he took that role in "Pulp Fiction". Jackson (as always) shines as an embittered estranged father to Sean Nelson's chess prodigy/drug dealer.
Nelson climbs the ladder of the heroin business in the hopes of rescuing The script shines. It is honest and smart. The acting is top-notch (Giancarlo Esposito is a terrific villain) starting with young Nelson.
And Yakin delivers an impressive debut as director. This is a classic, albeit out-of-print. When will Miramax (or somebody) reissue this great film on DVD?
