Review of Freedom Writers (2007) by Lynn K — 10 Oct 2009
If this movie is not adapted from the true story, I would think this is just the other idealism from Hollywood. The contribution of changing and influencing these kids' lives is far more than publishing ten papers in top tier peer-review journals. However, if any person has this opportunity as Ms. Erin Gruwell has, is s/he willing to fight for these kids?
It is really sad that most educators and scholars do not see the importance of their roles in the society. Instead of getting the support they deserve to have, those who choose to do the right thing are punished by the system and those biased people.
I am glad that Ms. Gruwell never gives up and decides to advocate her idea thourgh her non-profit organization. Hope more educators can be inspired by Ms. Gruwell's story and more kids can find themselves in this self-discovery process.
