Review of Fierce People (2006) by ♥Nancy M — 14 Jun 2008
This movie was hard to watch in some ways but it was worth it. There was some good acting in here but I think that Dirk Wittenborn might have written a somewhat predictable screenplay from what might turn out to be a not-so-predictable novel.
I guess if you have issues with drug addiction or sexual abuse, this movie may gloss over these issues in a way that trivializes them, but I don't think that's the intent.
Diane Lane gives a good performance, as does Donald Sutherland. And I thought Elizabeth Perkins was actually very good in her role as a helpless mother trying desperately to keep herself oblivious by sucking down vodka from Tab cans and pretending not to know everything she actually does know.
I think it was better than a number of films I've seen lately and I also think I'll look for the novel at the library.
