It's a movie that was made to NOT be successful.
An animated crime story with violence, sex, allucinated dreams, racism, all played by cats?
World wasn't ready for this in 1994.
Watching it now, it's a great movie, it has some minor plot holes and maybe the murderer is a little bit too easy to guess, but the animation is really good, the story is compelling and oniric sequences are really crazy.
Just 2 advice:
-this is not The Incredible Mouse Detective, it's a real pulp story (no kids allowed).
-even if I can't speak german I prefer to watch it in german with sub (really bad english dubbing, sorry).
