I've read the books, but seeing the portrayals of these real-life people was something else. The cinematography was outstanding; I felt like we were really on the mountain. The 3D was non-gimmicky and enhanced the experience without taking away from the story, which is exactly what it should do.
DEFINITELY a theatre movie - 3D or not. Great film.
