Review of El Norte (1983) by K D — 30 May 2007
The film documents a Guatemalan who enters the U.S. unlawfully and takes on the maid position in a household that many newer immigrants inherit by default. Long, but amusing, sweet and to the point. We have not seen this sort of Hollywood effort to capture the plight of unlawful immigrants in years.
Newer movies should focus on the frustration in a humorous but more realistic way. There has not been a 'legalization' since 1986 making this movie in need of a remake.
