Review of Dean Spanley (2008) by Mh P — 19 Mar 2011
Every now and then, a "perfect" film finds its way to our television screen, a magical blend of story-telling, acting performances, direction, music and editing that touches both mind and heart.
Dean Spanley is a wonderful mingling of comedy and wit, about dogs, death and reincarnation. The film is directed by Fijian New Zelander Toa Fraser. The cast--Peter O'Toole, Jeremy Northam, Sam Neill, Bryan Brown, Judy Parfitt, Dudley Sutton--is superb.
The screenplay is by Alan Sharp, beautifully adapted from the short novel by Irish author Lord Dunsany, My Conversations with Dean Spanley. If you want your spirits to be lifted through laughter and tears, this may be a "perfect" film for you.
