Review of Cut and Run (1985) by Dc F — 20 Aug 2012
The late, lovely Lisa Blount is a reporter who tracks down a drug cartel run by South American natives and their Colonel Kurtz-like leader (the reliable Richard Lynch). Flesh-ripping, head-chopping carnage and sleaze ensues.
Ruggero Deodato's jungle adventure is relatively restrained compared to his "Cannibal Holocaust", the notoriously nasty last word on tropical tastelessness which subtly (!) sends up the cannibalistic news media.
"Cut and Run" revisits that commentary, but with stronger production values. While you can't get more dubious than an ultra-violent exploitation flick that indicts media exploitation of violence, it's an effective and tightly-directed thriller.
Look for future "ER" star Eriq La Salle as a pimp!
